last night we took the kids to the western heritage classic parade in downtown abilene. line dancers took to the street (for real!) and families lined the curbs for the kick-off event, to be followed by a weekend of horse races, chuck wagon cook offs, western artisans, ranch horse clinics and the ranch rodeo competition. this annual three-day celebration ties back to the cowboy heritage and "the way it was" back on the ranch generations ago.
for me it was actually a moment to reflect on the way our life is now…less traffic, clean air, more family time and lots of horses and tractors. beyond the daily chaos, the convenience and spirit of our new settlement provides freedom, serenity and opportunities we had not previously known or appreciated. and these precious faces make it all the worthwhile.
