service with a sprite...

i arrived safe and sound in cold kansas city on friday morning for our semi-annual sony/sam's club business event. pregnant or not, being away from josh and home for five nights isn't something i look forward to -- especially since this trip is over the weekend (super bowl wkd at that). well, day 1 in kansas city is over and i experienced exceptional customer service at the hilton president hotel in downtown kansas city, so i thought i'd share.

a little background -- for a few weeks i've been waking up at 3:30am every night with a little uneasiness in the belly. sprite and a slice of bread has been the miracle cure. nausia goes away and i'm back to sleep. so as i'm packing up, i grabbed a bag of pretzels (as a substiture for the bread) and thought surely i'll be able to pick up some sprite once i get there.

challenge: find a sprite

option 1) the hotel's (not-so) convenient store was actually closed when i got back from dinner last night

hmmm...i decided to wait it out and went to sleep. of course, like an alarm clock, i awoke at 3:23am with the same nausious feeling.

option 2) ah, room service -- come to find out, their service ends at midnight, so not an option

option 3) there has to be a soda machine around here somewhere, right? before i head down the hall in my victoria secret houndstooth thermal pajamas, i called the front desk to locate the closest machine. okay, "one on every floor just past the elevator." here i go...

and then the telephone rings -- it's the front desk. "sorry ma'am, you're on the 1st floor and it actually does NOT have a machine. you'll have to go up to the THIRD floor to find the closest machine."

you've got to be kidding me.

then, the oh-so-kind front desk guy says, "actually, my security guard will come get your change and get the sode for you." OMG, now that is customer service!! so a few minutes later, knock knock... i open the door and the security guard is standing there with an assortment of free bottled sodas and asks, "what kind would you like?" he had two sprites and a bottle opener and i was in heaven. and shortly thereafter back to sleepzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

i'll be sure to pick up some extra sprites today, while their store is open :)

go patriots!!!

It's no fun being away from home and I know you are especially sad during the super bowl. I LOVE the story about the sprite...I have a feeling that some special angels were watching over you and baby Y!
