spring fever: part 1…

the snow is finally gone and we’ve had a few days of beautiful blue sky, warm sunshine and insane wind. we were excited about a trip to abilene for Easter to visit josh’s family, who we hadn’t seen since new years.

what’s that quote about the best laid plans…often go awry?!

day care called monday afternoon reporting drew had a low-grade fever. school rules: can’t go back for at least 24 hours, so i stayed home with him on tuesday despite the fact that he showed no signs of any illness. possibly a little teething action, but no other symptoms and no fever. so it was back to school on wednesday and thursday.

well, thursday night about 3am the $hit hit the fan - quite literally. drew got sooooo sick, we had to strip the sheets and throw him in the bathtub. afterward, we emptied a can of lysol  in his room and hit the couch. josh found some cartoons in hopes that we’d all be able to go back to sleep. as soon as drew fell asleep, i carried him into our room and passed out…for a few hours at least. i woke up before him and noticed he was burning up. not so quick temperature check (any recommendations for a good thermometer i’m listening!!) and it’s almost 102.

josh had a sore throat all week, so we call the doc office and got appts for both the boys. by noon, josh was diagnosed with  tonsillitis and the little guy had a stomach bug. drew slept about 4 hours on friday afternoon and then his usual 12 hours overnight.

we still had hopes of making the trek to abilene on saturday morning, until drew had another episode. the fever was gone, but his stomach was still a wreck. i put him down for nap and headed out to try to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and buy more flowers…retail therapy?!

josh was feeling a little better, so he put together the new swing set while i gardened in the backyard. when i finally woke up the little guy at 5pm, he wasn’t 100% but found a little energy to enjoy the fresh air and his new playground. it was a semi-perfect spring evening. josh grilled for us, we played outside and i savored the moments!
