d is for daring, dirty, dramatic and demanding, but absolutely darling.
D-R-E-W has officially moved from any resemblance of baby and jumped head first (literally) to one hundred percent B-O-Y.
last week, all four of us were crammed in cj’s room getting ready for drew’s first tee ball practice. he was playing and jumping around as usual, and with my back turned he climbed up on the (rocking) ottoman. when he decided it would be fun to stand up AND jump off, the ottoman gave way underneath him and he was launched head first into the changing table.
he was fine.
or so we deemed after checking for bumps, cuts, neck injuries, dilated pupils, etc.
me on the other hand, well i think i’m still in recovery mode. i’m just not sure i have the stomach and heart to make it through the next…twenty, forty, sixty plus years.
words cannot describe the pain, fear and panic as i saw it happen in slow motion in my peripheral. i can only say that thinking about it again and writing it down is making me well up…again.
i know there are more traumatic events and emergency room visits a comin’. every parent has a story or two or three about theirs. i can only hope that the next incident will be as seemingly harmless as the last.
in the meantime, i’m desperately seeking courage.

Yikes. Some day we can share your traumatic stories with Drew and Callie. Certainly glad he is alright, as for you my sweet mommy, Hold on for the ride!
Tammy is right - it is a ride and some days are scarier than others. But even in the bad days of skins and scrapes it is all JOY! Gan-Gan always use to say to me "Boys will be Boys" oh so true!
wait until we start jumping off the roof! airborne!
