five for friday: o' christmas tree…

i’ve been known to keep a notepad in the nightstand to jot down my to do list, random thoughts, grocery needs and other ideas that come in my very light slumber. and a few months ago, i bought this adorable list keeper on etsy to organize those thoughts in style!

well, the wheels have been a-turning since waking up with miss callie jane at 5am, and i’ve decided to start a new blog series to feature five totally random things every friday!

in the spirit of the holidays, the first feature will be my favorite ornaments on our christmas tree. it was pretty challenging to pick just five, but here they are in no particular order…

waterford christmas tree – my dad gave us this 2005 crystal collector ornament to commemorate the year we became mr and mrs. it’s simple and beautiful, and i love how it reflects against the tree lights. but it’s also pretty heavy, so it requires a very sturdy branch far away from little fingers.

 

nostalgic hearts – i distinctly remember these on our REAL christmas trees throughout my childhood. when i started my own ornament collection, my theme was hearts so they were a perfect fit. despite changing themes and expanding our collection over the years, these have and will always remain a staple.  

 

 

lil’ drew’s hand print – drew started day care at kids r kids (oh, how i miss that place) in december 2008 and this was one of the first of soooo many art projects they did. looking back at how small he was (compared to how big he is now) and remembering our first holiday as a family of three warms my heart and brings happy tears to my eyes. 

 

 

the flag - for me this ornament represents both the US and texas flags. but it’s really a reminder every year of just how lucky and blessed we are to have a healthy and crazy wonderful family, as there are 1000s of brave men and women in uniform that won’t be able to spend the season with their family. thank you for your service!

 

mr snowman - so i’ve saved the least sentimental ornament for last, but this was a gift from a dear friend several years ago. i love their orange noses, sweet smiles and faux fur scarves. this one actually inspired me to use red and white feather boas on our tree as decorative garland.
