josh got deacon when he was still in college, so they’ve been best buds for a lllooooonnnngggg time. after spending a few years with his mom, the two were reunited when we moved into our house.
despite the fact that i’m not a huge pet lover, deacon really is a great dog. he’s sweet, smart, protective and still thinks he’s a lap dog. which is probably why we’ve had some jealously issues since drew bear joined the family. he’s never been aggressive, just more demanding and doesn’t know how to control that 100 lbs of sheer power when maneuvering around the little one.
so anyway, josh took him to the vet on thursday for his annual checkup and to remove a cyst on his left eye. sadly, they made some additional discoveries. at 11-1/2 years old, doc recommended we have him neutered because testosterone is stimulating the growth of a perianal tumor (which is apparently very common in unneutered male dogs)?! so, this morning they put him under for the two procedures and found another tumor growing in his throat.
bless his heart…he’s back home now, but moving very slow. they’ll send the tumor to the lab for testing and we’ll hope for a very speedy recovery from this tough lab!

ahhh! i can so feel your pain, compassion and tenderness. Dogs are special even if you aren't a real fan. Deacon has been there through thick and thin and has somewhat adapted to drew bear's presence. We hope his recovery is swift and painless. Please keep us posted. Many dog tears. m/p
Ohhhh I am so sorry to hear Deacon is not feeling well. He is such a great doggie. I love the way he is at the door waiting for us to give him some lovin. Please let us know what the Veterinarian finds out.
