this is my destiny…

so it’s friday night…drew is sound asleep, josh is playing WOW and i’m blogging. sounds exciting, eh? maybe not to some, but it’s nice to just sit, relax and enjoy the silence!

while our wonderful (not so relaxing with a 9-month old) beach vacation in sunny florida is long gone, i’ll try to remember some of the details to go along with the pictures. long blog alert!!

let me start by saying, if you haven’t been to destin, you should go….NOW! do not pass go, do not collect $200. in my opinion, it is the best beach in the continental US. clear emerald green water, white powdery sand, calm surf, reasonable rental properties, family friendly and accessible by car or plane.

so,  josh made the 13 hour drive from dallas with his mom, aunt and uncle. drew and i opted for the faster route. it was drew’s first flight and i was sooooo glad to have debra, tom, brian and david on board to help keep him entertained. he had no problems with the altitude (or motion sickness, like me) and was enamored with the window shades – open, close, giggle – open, close, giggle – open, close, giggle.

DSC00525somehow, we were able to coordinate the schedules of 27 people and rented three houses in the Old Florida Beach neighborhood of Santa Rosa Beach. this yellow beauty was the perfect Casa del Mar on Old Beach Road for us. with six adults and four wild animals/little boys (ages: 7, 4 and two under 1) it had plenty of open space for them to tear-it-up and a plunge pool warmer than a hot tub…:)

we celebrated father’s day, lounged in the pool, had a pirate’s luau, grilled fresh-caught snapper from the deep sea fishing trip, played lots of cards, splashed in the ocean, took lots of afternoon naps, played golf, drank lots of beer and rum, and did a little shopping in seaside.

drew got a little too adventurous mid-week. he decided to test his surfing skills and dove off the front porch. we had an ice chest and baby gate up to block the stairs, but he managed to squeeze through us standing RIGHT THERE, basically rode the gate down the stairs and tumbled onto the concrete. little blood and LOTS of tears. despite the scrap across the face, he was fine in about 5 minutes…for me, it took 5 rum and cokes and another 5 days to recover!

sadly, all good things must come to end. josh packed it up and hit the road. while charlotte and I snapped just a few more pictures of the little boys on the beach before returning to reality.

until next year!

what a fantastic week, we definitly agree on the best beach in the US. those are great pictures, it looks as if some of us stayed in the sun way tooo long, probably had too many of those rum drinks, but the naps and the family friendly environment was spectacular. When are we going back?

Much love - mimi and peepaw
