where the wild things are…

knowing we wouldn’t be able to go to destin this year, josh and i debated for months on what to do for an early summer vacation. when i found the hyatt wild oak ranch in the hill country, i knew it was the perfect destination for a little fun in the sun with tons of character -- wildflower pavilion, nature trail, indoor and outdoor pools, lazy river, fire pits and more -- we were sold!

THURSDAY: we hit the road about 10am, stopped once south of austin for lunch and a run-thru walmart (where i snagged an adorable $7 hat) to help break up the trip, and arrived at the ranch just after 3pm. drew was restless and ready for adventure, so we immediately went exploring.

good thing we had two full kitchens, so we could dedicate one fridge to all the beverages (sorry, had to take a picture)!

FRIDAY: we scouted the perfect location for our afternoon in the lazy river. lucky!! since there are only two setups like this with the pergola, hammock, lawn chairs and direct access to the river. despite several snake sightings (in and out of the water!) we camped here all day. everyone else must have been at sea world, because we practically had the place to ourselves.

SATURDAY: it was cool, breezy and overcast, so any hopes of getting back into the water were quickly eliminated. we still managed to have fun exploring the property, playing horseshoes, lunch-ing poolside, napping, dancing on the patio, chipping a few golf balls and grilling a fabulous salmon dinner.

SUNDAY (booo!!!): as always, vacation days go by entirely too fast. but i’m glad we found this hidden treasure -- we’ll definitely return for another relaxing weekend getaway!
